Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 is a personal computer operating system developed by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT and Windows Embedded Industry family based on Windows XP Service Pack 3.
This build also includes Windows Media Player 11 and Internet Explorer 7, alongside the Embedded theme that replaces Luna. It also lacks many components of Windows XP, such as Paint, Games, and Windows Product Activation.
Improvements[]
- Full localization
- XPS support for .NET Framework 3.5 or higher
Windows XP's extended support[]
While Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 was meant for businesses, in April 2014 with Windows XP's end of support many users have found out about this version of Windows. If installed it could give users 5 extra years (from 2014) of support for Windows XP.
A registry hack could trick the Windows Update website into thinking that the machine had Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 instead of Windows XP so people can get the extra updates without installing the operating system.
