Pocket PC 2002 (codenamed Merlin) is a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft as part of the Pocket PC family. It was announced on September 6, 2001 and released on October 4.[1][2]

As of October 14, 2008 it is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Description[]

Pocket PC 2002 was based on Windows CE 3.0. While it was intended for Pocket PC QVGA devices it was also used for Pocket PC phones and smartphones. These devices had the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM). Future versions with relaxed licensing terms allowed OEMs to benefited as they could add more innovative design ideas. Pocket PC 2002's design was heavily inspired by Windows XP. This version of Pocket PC supports transferring files to both non and Microsoft devices and support for Terminal Services and Virtual Private Networking and to synchronize folders. In Pocket Internet Explorer the UI was improved.
