Microsoft Azure, also referred to simply as "Azure", is a cloud computing platform developed by Microsoft and launched on February 1, 2010.
Product history
The platform was first previewed to developers as Windows Azure on October 27, 2008. It allows web applications to be hosted from Microsoft's data centers.[1] Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella described Azure as the "world's computer".[2]
A new icon design in the Fluent design language was introduced on May 7, 2021.[3] Azure's quarterly revenue in 2021 increased 50% over the previous year, driven by increased use during the COVID-19 pandemic, making it the second largest cloud service provider in the world.[4]
