Mozilla Firefox, also known simply as Firefox, is a free and open-source web browser developed by the Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary the Mozilla Corporation. Versions are available for Android, Chrome OS, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows.

History[]

The first public beta, codenamed "Pescadero", was seeded on September 23, 2002.[1][2] Version 1.0, which supported Windows 98 to XP, was released on November 9, 2004.[3] Plug-ins such as Flash Player were deemed a security issue and deprecated in 2017, then phased out by the end of 2020.[4][5] In November 2021, Firefox became the first major third-party web browser to become available through the Microsoft Store with support for both Windows 10 and 11.[6]

System requirements[]

As of May 31, 2022, the minimum PC requirements are Windows 7 or later, a Pentium 4 or later CPU with SSE2 support, and 200 MB of drive space. 512 MB of RAM is required to run in 32-bit; 2 GB of RAM is required for 64-bit. It is possible to install older versions of Firefox for older versions of Windows, but it may not offer the same level of security.[7]
