Xbox Avatars are avatars and characters that represent users of the Xbox Live service on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S video game consoles, Windows 10, and Windows 10 Mobile.[1]
History[]
Xbox Avatars first debuted on the Xbox 360 as part of the "New Xbox Experience" system update, released on November 19, 2008. They were later updated on the Xbox One as part of the "New Xbox One Experience" system update, released on November 12, 2015.[2] On October 11, 2018, the avatars were reimagined with the release of the next generation character for Xbox One.[3]
Accessories[]
On August 11, 2009, the Avatar Marketplace was launched, allowing users to buy clothes and props using their Xbox Live account. Users are able to buy branded clothing, such as Adidas, for their avatar, as well as game-related clothing, such as costumes from Halo and Fable 2. A player can also update their Avatar's wardrobe by achieving certain goals and unlocking different clothing.
Trivia[]
- On the Xbox 360, avatars can make expressions depending on the way the user moves their head with the right thumbstick.
- If their head shakes left-to-right, the avatar will have an angry expression, showing they do not want something.
- If their head shakes up and down, the avatar will have a nodding expression.
- If their head moves around, the avatar will have a dizzy expression.
